5 best moments of Shahid Afridi’s career
KARACHI: Shahid Afridi is without a doubt one of Pakistan cricket’s biggest superstars. His unique way of playing cricket and his approach towards the game has ensured that cricket will never see another player like him.
Here is a list of his top 5 accomplishments that will be remembered for times to come.
A fantastic comeback
Shahid Afridi was making a comeback versus the Caribbean side after being dropped due his inconsistent performances. The all-rounder took full advantage of this opportunity and pulled off an amazing spell of bowling where he took 7 wickets for 12 runs and guided Pakistan to a convincing victory.
Famous two sixes against Ashwin
Pakistan were in a tight spot against India during the Asia cup 2014 held in Bangladesh as needed 10 off the last over. Afridi took the burden on his shoulders as he smacked Indian spinner Ashwin for two amazing sixes and sealed a memorable victory for Pakistan.
Century off 37 balls
In only his second ODI, Afridi registered a century off just 37 balls as he bludgeoned the Lankan attack all over the ground. Interestingly the bat he used was given to him Waqar Younis who in turn recieved it from the Great Sachin Tendulkar.
The Kanpur knock
In a match played at the Green Park at Kanpur in 2005, Pakistan were chasing a target of 250, which was considered a stiff ask during those days, but Afridi made a mockery of the total and played a smashing knock of 102 runs off 46 balls.
T20 World Cup triumph
Pakistan were up against Sri Lanka in the final of the T20 world cup and were chasing a target which had been their weak point off late but Shahid Afridi stepped it up and played a match winning half century. He dominated the Lankan bowling attack which included the likes of the Magician Muralitharn, Malinga and others. Afridi was rightfully declared man of the final as Pakistan lifted their first ever T20 title.
