Aaqib Javed is back in the race of becoming head coach
Aaqib Javed has once again become one of the leading contenders to become the head coach of Pakistan cricket team.
Javed, a week earlier, stated that he will not apply for the position as the panel of Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja, who is responsible to hire the head coach, has already made up their mind to hire a foreign coach.
However, there is a bad news for UAE cricket as Aaqib is all set to resign from coaching and return to Pakistan to seek an opportunity in the Pakistan Super League.
Aaqib Javed was the frontrunner to fill the position left vacant by Waqar Younis after he stepped down as Pakistan’s head coach after team’s poor exhibition of cricket in the Asia Cup and the World T20.
There are some news that Pakistan Cricket Board is still in contact with the legendary fast bowler, Aaqib Javed and asking him to at least remain in the race of becoming the head coach of the national side.
If Aaqib Javed leaves UAE, he will be remembered as the most successful coach for the respective team, he has taken them to two World Cups and has helped them gaining the ODI status. Aaqib has been involved in UAE coaching since 2012.
The 43 year old has an impressive track record as a coach and he has worked at different levels in Pakistan. He has coached Pakistan U-19 side to a World Cup win; he has been the head coach of NCA and has been the assistant coach of the national side.
If the PCB is to hire a local coach, the only serious competitor for Javed is Muhammad Akram. However, he has some fierce international competition for the post, Dean Jones, Micky Arthur, Tom Moody, Stuart Law and Peter Moores are the ones that the board is considering for the post.
PCB Chairman has earlier announced that the new head coach will be appointed by the first week of May. The deadline for candidates to apply for the post is 25th April.
