Afghanistan women team to wear ‘Hijab’
Denmark: Football is a very popular game in Afghanistan and that’s why they have a national women football team parallel to the men. A Danish company has taken the initiative to introduce a football kit which fits well to the social environment of the country and keeps the women players covered from top to toe.
The’ Red color’ kit was introduced by the company on the International Women’s Day bearing in mind that when women wear this uniform and land in the ground they remain in their ‘hijab’ from top to toe without their performance being affected. In 2014 FIFA had lifted the ban on wearing of scarf but made it compulsory not to attach the scarf to the shirt and keep its color identical to the shirt after which this unique uniform has been designed.
The captain of the women football team gave her comments on the uniform saying that the player’s shirt reflects the heritage, tradition and history of their country and wearing such a uniform while playing will be unforgettable. She said her courage has motivated thousands of Afghan women to fulfill their desire by entering the field as they have tremendous potential.
Regarding the new uniform the company says “We’ve tried to reflect the Afghan character and traditions through this kit and we think we’ve been quite successful in achieving our objective.”
