Australia blow away India to face NZ in final
SYDNEY: Australia will take on New Zealand in the final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 after thrashing India by 95 runs in the semi final here at Sydney on Thursday, ARYSports.tv reports.
The highlights of the day was the century by Steve Smith.
Australia won the toss and opted to bat first in the match.
The co-hosts scored 328/7 in their allotted 50 overs thanks to a century by Steve Smith and a half century by Aaron Finch.
Smith scored 105 runs from 93 balls with the help of 11 boundaries and two sixes while Finch made 81 runs from 116 balls with seven boundaries and one six to his name.
Smith also scored his fourth straight half century as well.
James Faulkner and Mitchell Johnson also scored many runs in the death overs to ensure that the side goes past three hundred and their team’s bowlers have a total which they can defend.
India’s Umesh Yadav took four wickets in his nine overs whereas Mohit Sharma took two wickets and Ravi Ashwin also grabbed one wicket as well.
In reply, the Asian side were back in the pavilion after managing to put up 233 runs on the board with only half of its team scoring in double figures.
Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was scored 65 runs from 65 balls while Shikhar Dhawan scored 45 runs from 41 balls.
Ajinkya Rahane contributed 44 runs for the team while Rohit Sharma made 34 for his side.
James Faulker took three wickets for Australia while Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Johnson grabbed two wickets each. Josh Hazlewood also dismissed one batsman.
Steve Smith was named the Man of the Match for his hundred in the match.
Hosts Australia and New Zealand will clash in the grand final on March 29th, 2015 (Sunday) at Melbourne.
