Babar and Nawaz earn test call, Hafeez dropped
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the 14-men squad for the test series against West Indies, impressive youngsters Babar Azam and Mohammad Nawaz have earned their debut call in test squad. Whereas, Mohammad Hafeez failed to retain his spot.
Pakistan will start off their test campaign against West Indies in a day/night test, which will be only the second test match of this nature after Australia and New Zealand contest at Adelaide last year.
Babar Azam impressed the whole cricket fraternity with brilliant show with the bat against West Indies in three-match ODI series, where he struck three consecutive tons and joined the elite club. He is likely to bat at no.3 spot in absence of Mohammad Hafeez, who failed once again playing for PCB Patron XI, he only managed a seven-ball duck.
Another surprising inclusion in the test squad is of Mohammad Nawaz, who was the highest wicket taker in the ODI series against West Indies. The slow-left arm bowler impressed selectors with his allrounder performance.
On the other hand, Younis Khan will miss the first test as he is unable to attain full fitness after suffering dengue fever. However, Inzamam Ul Haq is hoping that he will be available for second game of the series.
Similarly, Mohammad Amir will also not be a part of the pink ball test match as he is in Pakistan due to poor health of his mother.
Shan Masood, who was unable to perform as an opener in England, is dropped from the squad, however, Sami Aslam has succeeded to retain his place in the team. Pakistan will take on West Indies in the first match of the three-match series from October, 13.
