Peshawar: Big names topple in the ongoing All Pakistan Ranking Badminton Championship. Pakistan’s number one Murad Ali and national champion Owais Zahid are unexpectedly out of the finals. WAPDA makes a clean sweep in the Men and Women singles semi-finals, the situation in women’s doubles is quite similar.
According to details in the first Men’s singles semi finals played at Garrison club Peshawar, third seed Abdul Rehman from WAPDA gave an upsetting defeat to Pakistan’s number one Murad Ali, the score was 15-21, 21-19 and 21-18. In the second semi final of the Men singles Pakistan No.2 Owais Zahid was beaten by WAPDA’s Irfan Saeed a No 4 in ranking to reach the finals. The score was 13-21, 21-17 and 21-15. Both the Women’s singles semi-finals took place between WAPDA players. In the first semi-final Pakistan’s No.1 Khizra Rasheed beat Bushra Qayyum 21-18 and 21-12.
In the second semi-final Mahoor Shehzad of WAPDA defeated Saira Ikram 21-17 and 21-16. In the Men’s doubles first quarter-final Owais Zahid and Atiq of WAPDA beat Masood and Tahir of police 21-16 and 21-10 to move to the semi-finals while in the second quarter-final Amir and Raja Husnain of Punjab beat Muqeet and Yawar after a tough fight scoring 21-19, 23-21. In the third quarter finals WAPDA’s Hashir and Irfan Saeed beat Shabir and Adnan of their own department by 21-11, 21-11 while in the last quarter-final Murad and Azeem beat Waqas Zahid and Ahsan.
In the Women’s doubles quarter-final Saima and Farzana beat Rosheen and Zobia 21-16, 21-17. Ghazala and Mahoor Shehzad beat Yousra and Aisha of KPK by 21-10 and 21-9. WAPDA’s Bushra Qayyum and Huma beat Saba and Saira by 21-07, 21-11. In the last quarter final WAPDA’s Khizra Rasheed and Sadia beat Javeria and Kausar of Punjab 21-17, 21-14 making a clean sweep to reach the semi-finals. The events singles finals and Men and Women’s doubles semi-finals will take place on Tuesday.
