Basit Ali likely to coach Pakistan ‘A’
Lahore: The former test batsman, Basit Ali is likely to be named as the coach for Pakistan’s A team that is to tour England in June-July later this year.
If some reports are to be believes, Basit Ali’s name is being under consideration for the head coach. He was appointed as the selector of Pakistan’s junior team, but, his selected team couldn’t do anything significant in the U-19 World Cup.
Basit Ali has been a critique of board’s policy and the PCB is accustomed of giving such people a post in the board to get away from their firing range.
After seeing Pakistan national team’s ranking tumbling in the limited over games and unable to produce world class cricketers, the PCB is still reluctant to spend much at the grass root level. The board is not looking to hire a specialist coach or a big gun to groom players.
Whereas, the neighboring country, India has appointed their batting legend, Rahul Dravid as a coach at U-19 level. other than that, the Cricket Australia gave the responsibility of coaching junior cricketers to Greg Chappel in the past.
As per the PCB, Basit Ali was a good coach and he has proved his worth in the past, it was board’s mistake to give him the post of selector, where he failed to perform well.
