Can’t be compared to Miandad despite breaking his record – Younus
Abu Dhabi: This year during the Sri Lankan series Younus Khan was unable to break the Pakistan Test record as captain Misbah ul Haq played a speedy innings giving him less space to score. The captain’s aggressive batting restricted the experienced batsman to achieve his target but there is plenty of opportunity for him to break the record when he plays against England on Tuesday.
Younus says despite crossing Miandad’s run record I am no way close to the legendary Pakistani batsman who has been a heart throb of millions of cricket fans and still remains their idol.
In an interview Younus said It would be great honor to achieve a record for Pakistan which I never thought of during my early days but I cannot ever match myself to Javed Miandad.
Miandad is a Legend it would be great breaking his record but I am in no way close to the legend and am still unable to reach his heights which he has attained. Earlier during the Ireland tour Younus set another record playing an exceptional 4th innings of a Test scoring 5 centuries and surpassing leading star players like Sunil Gavasker, Ricky Ponting, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Graeme Smith. He said records aside, I want to bat for my country and wish to be recognized as a batsman who has always played for Pakistan.
The series against England is going to be very important one and it’s my desire to play an active role in bringing success and victory to my team and my country.
