Elton Chigumbura has resigned as captain of the Zimbabwe national team after the team’s latest 2-2 draw against Bangladesh.
Elton was heavily criticised after the team’s lackluster display against Afghanistan which meant that the team lost the series 3-2 in UAE. The latest tour of Bangladesh was also a low key one because the team managed to draw the series after going down 2-0 in the series.
Chigumbura said that he wants to contribute for the team as a senior player and it’s the best time to leave the post for a new captain. He thanked the cricket board for giving him the opportunity to captain the side twice and the challenges that came along with it were a fascinating experience for him.
Although the Zimbabwe cricket board has accepted his decision but the replacement is yet to be decided.
