Cricket fans also under vigilance in WT20
Mumbai: During the World Twenty20, fans and guests staying in hotels are also under surveillance.
According to details ICC’s ACU (anti corruption unit) is taking strict measures in keeping match-fixing away from the WT20 event. They are not only keeping vigilance on the players but also a strict eye on the guests staying in the same hotels or coming close to the players. ACU’s Head Ronnie Flanagan says we conduct reconnaissance of the hotels where the players are staying and conduct vigilance of all those guests staying around them.
Our officials stay in the same hotels and keep a close eye on those trying to come close to the players. I think we have now become more experienced in our work and have increased our resources. We now recognize those people who try to exploit the growth of cricket for their evil means. Flanagan said our investigators keep their eyes open in the ground also particularly on those spectators who stick to their mobile phones while the match is on.
These people also include ‘pitch-siders’ who give a ball-by-ball account on a mobile phone to their companions sitting outside the ground who try to take advantage of the time lapse between a broadcast and an event that has actually happened. Flanagan further said responsibility of keeping cricket ‘corruption free’ also lies on the individual players who must understand to uphold the legacy of the game.
