The Pakistan Cricket Board has decided to appoint the former Australian cricketer Dean Jones as the head coach of Pakistan cricket team.
A PCB official told APP that the PCB is considering the names of Dean Jones as head coach, Mohsin Khan as team manger and Iqbal Qasim for the post of chief selector. PCB had given the task of finding Pakistan’s next coach to Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja who are currently in talks with Dean Jones to finalize things.
“Mohsin was keen on becoming head coach but the PCB had offered him the job of the chief selector,” the official told APP. “But Mohsin rejected the offer; therefore, the PCB has decided to appoint him as team manager. The role of chief selector will be given to Iqbal Qasim,” he added.
Although earlier former Pakistan fast bowler Aqib Javed was in the running for head coach but it seems as if the PCB was more interested in hiring a foreigner.
Dean Jones was in charge of the Islamabad United side that won the inaugural edition of the Pakistan Super League. The new coach’s first assignment will be Pakistan’s first tour of England later this year.
Mohsin Khan, on the other hand, will be the team’s manager which is quite a sensible decision because his previous stint with Pakistan team was quite a successful one as under him Pakistan white washed the then world number test side in UAE and he commands respect among Pakistan player.
