Dhoni and other top Indian athletes turn up to help cancer patient
India’s ace sports stars MS Dhoni and Leander Paes have decided to come forward and help Kolkata-based cancer patient Bapi Majhi and the family of departed Alip Chakraborty. The latter passed away recently after suffering from throat cancer.
A charity fund raising auction will take place on the 11th of June in a local hotel at Kolkata and the amount collected will be given partly to the wife of deceased Alip in order to help out with the education of the children he left behind and most the amount raised will go to the cancer patient Bapi according to Press Trust of India.
Dhoni, who will not be able to attend the event due to tour of Zimbabwe, has already donated his wicketkeeping gloves and pads used in the shorter formats of the game while Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane donated his autographed India jersey for the fund-raiser. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has also donated couple of his jerseys while Bangladesh cricketer Shakib Al Hasan has given his autographed bat for the auction.
IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad’s mentor and former Indian batsman VVS Laxman, players including Manish Pandey, Brad Hogg, Indian women’s team pacer Jhulan Goswami, Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri and his team-mate Jeje Lalpheklhua have all donated their jerseys for this noble cause.
