Emrit succeeds Guptill as Jamaica make CPL knockouts
Kingston: Caribbean Premier League side Guyana named Rayad Emrit as their new captain on Thursday in place of Martin Guptill who has left to join New Zealand’s tour of Zimbabwe.
Emrit, 35, has played in 36 CPL games since 2013 having also previously featured for Barbados and making two appearances for the West Indies one-day squad.
Meanwhile, Chris Gayle’s Jamaica secured their place in the knockout stages with a 36-run win over Barbados at Sabina Park.
Gayle made just eight and was for once overshadowed by fellow opener Chadwick Walton who hit 97 with nine fours and five sixes in his team’s 195-5 total off a rain-hit 18 overs.
In reply, Barbados were bowled out for 159 with South African fast bowler Dale Steyn taking 4-27.
