End of an Era for Pakistan.
20.3.15, Adelaide, Australia. Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat.
Unfortunately the batting display was once again not good. The only substantial partnership of 73 runs was between Haris Sohail and Misbah. Even the great Misbah had several lucky escapes. On one occasion early in his innings the leg stump was hit by the ball, the lights went on, but the bail went up and fell back into position! He also had several fortunate inside edges.
Pakistan stumbled to a below par 213 all out in the final over. All 10 of the dismissed batsmen were out to catches. Many giving catching practice on the boundary.
In reply Australia had a tense time falling to 59/3. With paceman Wahab Riaz causing the batsman some discomfort. However 2 dropped catches in the field, eased the pressure.
In the end Australia proved too strong for Pakistan and played well to get through to a classic semi final against India. They chased the target down with 6 wickets to spare.
I feel overall Pakistan did well in the tournament to reach the Quarter finals. Not having Saeed Ajmal, Mohammad Hafiz and Junaid Khan seriously affected the team structure.
Farewell to the Shahid Afridi who has officially announced his retirement. Many thanks for the 19 years of exciting, box office entertainment. Will also probably be Misbah ul Haq’s and Younis Khan’s last World Cup. Their leadership and experience have helped Pakistan greatly over the years.
Look forward to seeing more of the talented youngsters Sarfraz Ahmad, Sohail Khan, Wahab Riaz and Ahmed Shehzad.
Thank you all for reading my blogs. Remember keep supporting Pakistan cricket!
