England opt to bat in first Bangladesh ODI

DHAKA: Stand-in England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and elected to bat in the first one-day international against Bangladesh in Dhaka on Friday.

Bangladesh left out Soumya Sarkar, Nasir Hossain and Al-Amin Hossain, while England handed an ODI debut to 21-year-old left-handed batsman Ben Duckett and paceman Jake Ball at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

England’s tour, beginning with three ODIs, has been overshadowed by security concerns after regular captain Eoin Morgan opted out because of a deadly jihadist attack earlier this year.

Bangladesh: Mashrafe Mortaza (captain), Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Mosaddek Hossain, Mahmudullah Riyad, Mushfiqur Rahim, Sabbir Rahman, Shafiul Islam, Mosharraf Hossain, Taskin Ahmed

England: Jos Buttler (captain), Jason Roy, James Vince, Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes, Ben Duckett, Adil Rashid, Jake Ball, David Willey

Umpires: Marias Erasmus (RSA) and Sharfuddoula Saikat (BAN)

TV umpire: Aleem Dar (PAK)

Match referee: Javagal Srinath.
