Five-a-side Hockey League: Islamabad and Quetta win while Faisalabad and Lahore manage a draw
Lahore: Plenty of goals were scored on the very first day of the 5-a-side tournament. Three hat-tricks were scored on first day of the league.
The tournament’s first match was played between Peshawar Panthers and Islamabad Fighters in which Islamabad Fighters beat Peshawar Panthers 10-7, Islamabad’s Ejaz was the first man to score a hat-trick, Rashid scored 2 goals. From Peshawar’s team, Adeel Latif, Samiullah and Khairullah scored 2 goals each. Rizwan senior was announced Man of the Match.
The second match of the tournament was between Faisalabad Falcons and Lahore Lions that ended up in an exciting draw 9-9. In this match one player from each side made a hat-trick. Faisalabad’s captain Dilbar scored 4 goals, Mohsin Sabir and Atif Mushtaq scored 2 goals each. From Lahore side Bilal Mahmood scored 3 and Amad Butt scored 2 goals. Dilbar Hussain was declared as the ‘best player’ of the second match.
A close contest was observed in the third match of the tournament, however at the last moment Quetta Warriors beat Karachi Sharks by a score of 5-4, Fayaz Yaqub from the winning side scored 2 goals, Asfand, Kashif Ali and Kashif Javed managed to score one goal apiece. From the losing side Ali Raza, Saran bin Qamar, Sikander Mustafa and Qasim scored a goal each. Quetta’s Kashif Javed was declared ‘best player’ of the match.
The first Five-a- side hockey tournament rolled into action at Lahore’s Hockey National Stadium under the auspices of PHF. Besides the chief guest Maj; General Fida Hussain, the PHF president Brig (R) Khalid Sajjad Khokhar, secretary PHF Olympian Shahbaz Ahmad (Sr) and many other Olympians and International players were also present.
