“I don’t want us to fear failure,” says Arthur in his first press conference
LAHORE: Pakistan’s newly appointed head coach, Mickey Arthur arrived Lahore on Wednesday, he had a meeting with the PCB boss Shahryar Khan on Thursday and held a press conference afterwards.
During the press conference, Mickey Arthur specifically said that he has come up with a ‘real plan’ for the betterment of Pakistan cricket team.
Mickey Arthur said that he will focus on improving Pakistan’s ranking, “We need to improve our rankings and become more consistent.”
The South African has probably observed that Pakistan lacks consistency in selection that is why he categorically said, “We need to invest in our players and be consistent in our selection.”
The 48-year old looked happy with the discussions that he had with the relevant authorities, “I’ve had fruitful discussions with all stakeholders.”
Arthur is likely to implement an approach of handling matters on the day to day basis so that they do not affect team’s performance.
Mickey Arthur is ready to take chances, he did not seem afraid of losing or making mistakes, “I don’t care if the team makes mistakes ─ professionals make mistakes,” he said, adding, “I don’t want us to fear failure. I think any team that fears failure is a team that struggles.”
Mickey Arthur was appointed by the Pakistan Cricket Board as the national team’s head coach after Waqar Younis stepped down from the post following Asia Cup and World T20 debacle. He has been a successful coach for South Africa as the Proteas was ruling the team rankings in all three formats of the game in his tenure.
