ICC women’s rankings launched

A substantial increase in following of the women’s cricket has made ICC to rethink about its plans regarding this field of cricket. A step towards the promotion of women’s game is the launching of the ICC women’s rankings.

Women’s cricket has really taken a positive turn as the quality and quantity of cricket has significantly improved. This is part of ICC’s plans to improve and invest in the game after witnessing the fact that Ladies cricket is generating large fan following from all over the cricketing fraternity.

The ranking system will be based on all formats i.e. the ODIs, T20s and tests and so points will be awarded on equal basis and will be collated in one ranking scenario without diving it in all formats specifically.

1 Australia
2 England
3 New Zealand
4 India
5 West Indies
6 South Africa
7 Pakistan
8 Sri Lanka
9 Bangladesh
10 Ireland

Australian womens’ captain was excited to hear about this news and said that ” It’s certainly nice to be recognized as world number one. We’ve done a lot of hard work in the past few years to win the ICC Women’s World Cup and ICC Women’s World Twenty, as well as the Ashes recently ” (icc.com)

This is quite a decent initiative by the International Cricket Council but should not be the only one as a lot needs to be done to bring the women’s game on equal terms with the men’s game.
