The ICC has announced the complete schedule of Champions Trophy 2017, arch rivals Pakistan and India will come face to face on June 4th, 2017 at Edgebaston.
The eight participating teams are divided into two groups. Pakistan is put in Group B along with the defending champions India, Sri Lanka and South Africa.
On the other hand, the Group A comprises of Australia, New Zealand, England and Bangladesh.
The tournament is scheduled to kick off from June 1st and the final will be played on June 18th, however, June 19th is kept as a reserve day for the final.
The top two teams from both the groups will advance to the semi-finals that will take place on June 14th and June 15th, 2017.
The International Cricket Council’s official website quoted Chief Executive, David Richardson, “The ICC Champions Trophy is a short and sharp event, which is followed and enjoyed by the spectators and players alike.”
“The ICC Champions Trophy 2017 is not just an ODI competition, it carries a great deal of value since it is being played just three months before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 qualification cut-off date. As such, every point earned here could be crucial.
“The announcement of the ICC Champions Trophy schedule 12 months before the start of the event will provide sufficient time to all eight sides to plan for the tournament and arrive in England and Wales fully prepared and geared up so that they can collect enough points to directly qualify for the 2019 extravaganza.”
England is scheduled to host three major international events, which are Champions trophy in 2017, ICC Women’s World Cup in 2017 as well and the ICC World Cup 2019.
England hosted the last edition of Champions Trophy as well in 2013 that was won by India convincingly beating all the opponents in the tournament.
