It is the worst I have ever seen Messi in the dressing rooms after a game, says Aguero
The Argentine star, Lionel Messi has announced retirement from international football after a heartbreaking defeat against Chile in the Copa America Cup final in the shootouts.
Messi missed an important spot-kick in the penalty shootout and Argentina faced a defeat in the third major final in the three years.
Sergio Aguero, Messi’s countrymen, who has played with the genius striker for about a decade, told that he has seen the superstar at the lowest ebb after the final whistle.
“We are all… we are trying to think about other things and continue on forward,” said Aguero. He added, But it’s hard. Once again luck has gone against us.”
The Manchester City star said it was the worst he has seen Messi, “Unfortunately, the most broken one is Messi for his missed penalty. It is the worst I have ever seen him in the dressing rooms after a game.”
Aguero quoted Messi’ words that he spoke in dressing room, “It’s tough, it’s not the time for analysis,” Messi said. “In the dressing room I thought that this is the end for me with the national team, it’s not for me,” Messi added.
The 29-year further expressed his emotions saying, “That’s the way I feel right now, it’s a huge sadness once again and I missed the penalty that was so important. I tried so hard to be champion with Argentina. But it didn’t happen. I couldn’t do it.”
Manchester United goalkeeper, Sergio Romero is still hoping that Messi will change his mind and will take back his retirement.
“I think Leo spoke in the heat of the moment because we missed that great chance,” said Romero.
“I can’t imagine a national team without Messi. I think he’ll reflect [on the decision],” he concluded.
