Lewandowski eager to silence the Vicente Calderón
It won’t be unfair to say that the best defense in Europe will be up against the finest attack from Europe as Bayern Munich face the Spanish side Atletico Madrid in the second semi-final of the UEFA Champions League.
The Bavarian side will visit the Vicente Calderón which is the home ground of Atletico Madrid for the first leg of the semi-final. The Bayern start striker Robert Lewandowski is eager to test the defensive capabilities of the Madrid side as his team gears up to face this stiff challenge. Atletico has kept a clean sheet in 13 of it’s last 15 champions League home matches which is quite a morale boosting achievement.
“They have the best defense in the Spanish Liga. I think they’re a team that play on the break. We need to be careful,” he told UEFA.com. “As a striker, it’s a challenge to face a side that concede so few, but I’m happy to be playing against them. We know it will be tough, but we are Bayern.”
The Polish striker is confident that his team can get the crucial away goal and silence the vocal Madrid crowd.
“We’ve heard the atmosphere there is among the top three in Europe when it comes to how the fans support their team. I like playing in front of crowds like that. Regardless whether you’re at home or away, those are always great matches for any player. Even though the crowd might be against you, it motivates you and your adrenaline goes to the limit.”
The first leg of this second semi-final will be played on the 27th of March whereas as the second leg is scheduled to take place at the historic Allianz Arena on the 3rd of May.
