Karachi/Lahore: Senior players welcomed Sarfraz Ahmad’s announcement as Pakistan’s Twenty20 captain and attached lot of hopes from the rising cricketer.
Former test captain Hanif Muhammad said Sarfraz is a highly talented batsman who played a pivotal role in bringing victory to his team due to his excellent performance. It is quite likely he would perform well as a captain also. Moin Khan while giving his views said Sarfraz has always fulfilled his responsibilities with complete determination and devotion. During his captaincy he will have to carry the team together maintaining his own performance intact. Another former test captain Rashid Latif commented that Sarfraz has attained this position because of his regular hard work and focused approach on his game, the entire nation prays for his success.
Sarfraz will have to bear in mind that captaincy is not a bed of roses he will have to take intelligent decisions. Former captain Younus Khan said Sarfraz is a player having God gifted qualities, as a captain he’ll have to give respect to his players and keep them motivated for a better outcome. Ramiz Raja said after being a captain Sarfraz will have to take big decisions.
PCB should make him captain of all the three formats. Misbah ul Haq who has yet to gauge his fitness before he leaves for England seems shaky about his decision which could create confusion whether he is to play or not, therefore PCB must make an informed decision before it’s too late.
