Malik’s dream return continues
All rounder Shoaib Malik has made his way back into the test squad after consistent performances with the bat and bowl in the past couple of ODI series, ARY news reported.
According to details, Malik’s dream run in ODIs and T20s have persuaded the selectors to include him in the test squad. His impact with bat was influential in getting Pakistan over the line against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. In the recently concluded ODI series against Zimbabwe he was the Man of the series and in the second ODI he was close to taking Pakistan to an amazing victory against all odds as Pakistan had lost six wickets for just 76 runs while chasing a target of 261.
Chief selector Haroon Rashid said in PCB’s official press release ““Following Intikhab Alam’s request, I spoke with my fellow selectors and there was unanimity over retaining Malik keeping in mind his current batting form and the off-spin bowling option that could be handy in the all-important forthcoming Test series against England,”
Malik last played a test match for Pakistan 5 years ago versus England at Birmingham where he failed miserably with bat as he scored 3 runs each in both the innings. But now if he does make it into the side, he will have a very good chance to cement his place in the national side as the conditions in UAE suits his style of play. He has played 32 test matches for Pakistan and averages 33 runs per innings. He has also 21 wickets with the ball so if he could roll his arm over as well that would definitely help improve their combination and trap spin troubled English batsmen.
