Mirza and Hingis set world record
Sania Mirza and her tennis partner Martina Hingis have now broken the record for the longest winning streak in women’s doubles tennis after the duo won their 29th match in a row as they advanced to the final of the WTA Sydney Internationals.
The Indo-Swiss pair won their 29th consecutive match to break the record set by Puerto Rican Gigi Fernandez and Belarus’ Natasha Zvereva in 1994 for 28 straight wins.
In the semi final of the WTA Sydney International open Hingis and Mirza defeated Olaru and Shvedova in a marathon match but the duo came out triumphant by winning the last set by a score of 10-8. It should be noted that they lost the first set 6-4 but bounced back to win the second set 6-3.
Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis have now got their eyes set on their 30th consecutive win which will be the grand final of this tournament.
