Misbah scraps Inzamam’s idea to play Azhar as an opener
LAHORE: Misbah Ul Haq has bluntly rejected Inzamam Ul Haq’s suggestion of opening the innings with Azhar Ali on England tour instead of the young Sami Aslam in case of unavailability of their regular openers Shan Masood or Mohammad Hafeez.
According to Dawn News, sources have revealed that Inzaman is not confident over Sami Aslam’s ability to face quality pace attack of England with maturity in difficult batting conditions, thus, Azhar Ali can be kept as an option for the opening slot.
As per sources, Misbah did not like Chief Selector’s idea and replied that if he does not have faith in the potential of the young opener then he shouldn’t have named him for the tour. Now, he has been selected, so he will get his due opportunity to prove his mettle.
Mohammad Hafeez, who is set to travel with the team to England, has not attain complete fitness, however, he believes that he will be able to get rid of his knee injury before June 18th when the team will leave for England.
The test skipper and the Chief Selector seem like having different thoughts about many issues. One of the reasons for this can be that during the span of 2003 to 2007, Inzamam along with Yousuf and others enjoyed complete domination in Pakistan cricket that ignored many emerging talents such as Misbah at that time.
Pakistan’s disastrous run in the World Cup 2007 changed the scenario and Misbah got a chance to get into the team afterwards he kept performing and eventually become the most successful test captain of Pakistan (as per stats).
