MS Dhoni’s wicket-keeping kit and Paes’ precious racquets auctioned for charity
Indian limited overs captain, MS Dhoni’s keeping gloves and pads and India’s ace tennis star, Leander Paes’ Wimbledon mix double winning racquets were auctioned for 100,000 and 150,000 INR respectively.
The auction was conducted by a local website to raise funds for cancer suffering hardcore Mohan Bagan fan, Bapi Majhi and to help the family of deceased East Bengal supporter, Alip Chakraborty.
Laednder Paes racquets are bought by former Indian cricketer and Bengal skipper, Manoj Tiwari, who himself is fond of playing tennis when gets time.
Tiwari is a huge fan of Leander Paes and calls him an inspiration for all sportsmen, “At the age of 42, Leander is still winning Grand Slams. His dedication and hardwork is an inspiration for all sportspersons. I love playing tennis during breaks and it would be nice to play with these racquets.”
In response, the Indian tennis star has also promised Tiwari to meet him sometime later this year when he will visit Kolkatta.
The total amount raised from this auction was 1.4 million INR which will be given to Majhi and Alip’s family.
The auction had other items as well such as Indian soccer captains, Sunil Chhetri’s jersey, Pele’s signed football and Ajinkya Rahane’s jersey.
