Pakistan does not have quality off-spinners and allrounders, says Inzamam
The Chief Selector of Pakistan, Inzamam Ul Haq has pointed out that Pakistan does not have quality off-spinners and allrounders at the moment.
Inzamam Ul Haq was talking to a local TV channel when he said, “We don’t have a proper off-spinner at the moment that is the reason I brought in Iftikhar Ahmed,” he added, “Also, we have no specialist all-rounder. I am in search for both right now.”
Pakistan’s former star batsman expressed that he will give proper chances to all the players, “I don’t want to take a player to England and then drop him for the UAE series because he couldn’t deliver in tough conditions.”
Inzamam believes that the quality of cricket will improve of the players that will tour England irrespective of the outcome, “We have played so much in UAE that our cricketers have lost their variety. Even if we don’t achieve the desired results in the upcoming series, everyone will see that the quality of our cricket rise,” he said.
Inzmam continued, “We haven’t played too many away series in the past six to seven years. I believe in our players’ ability to deliver once they start playing regularly on foreign pitches.”
The World Cup 92 hero said that his selector job is a tough one, “It is a difficult job. I cannot select all the domestic performers; all might be bowlers or batsmen, then there is captain’s, coach’s and selection committee’s opinion too. That makes some players unhappy. I try to select players who I think will help the team.”
Inzmam backed the idea of having a single captain across all formats of the game. He also commented on Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal that they are young and have a long career ahead of them, they can make a comeback with good performance and attitude.
