On the third day of December Pakistan won a historic series against the West Indies in 1997. Pakistan had not won a series against the Windies for 39 years and their last series win came way back in 1959. But in 1997 Pakistan broke the deadlock in emphatic fashion as they whitewashed the Caribbean side 3-0 in a series played in Pakistan.
Pakistan won the second test match at Rawalpindi Stadium on 3rd December to bag the series as they had already won the first test match. Interestingly this was the debut test match of speedster Shoaib Akhtar who took two wickets in the first innings and no wickets in the second innings.
Inzamam-ul-Haq was declared man of the match for a magnificent 177 runs knock in the first innings which helped Pakistan to a big first innings total. His 323 runs partnership with Aamer Sohail was instrumental in Pakistan’s victory because that partnership virtually took the game away from West Indies.
