The ninth ranked Pakistan will take on Ireland in two One Day Internationals and England in a five-match ODI series, the Men in Green will look to improve their ranking in order to get direct entry in World Cup 2019.
The next World Cup is scheduled in England in 2019, which will feature ten teams. The top eight teams in ICC ODI Team Ranking till 30 September 2017 will get a direct berth in the tournament.
While the bottom four teams will have to compete with the 10 teams from the ICC World Cricket League to get a place in the World Cup 2019, the top two teams will advance to play the biggest cricket tournament in England.
Pakistan is occupying the 9th spot with 87 points, whereas, West Indies has a seven point lead and holding the 8th position. Pakistan can cut down the gap and can even surpass the Men from Caribbean by fraction of points if they manage to win all of their seven ODIs against Ireland and England.
But, if Pakistan lose to Ireland by 2-0, they will drop to 83 points and if the series goes by 1-1, they will slip to 85 points, which can be nightmarish for them.
However, if Pakistan win both matches against Ireland, they will remain on 87 points because of the huge lead of 44 point they have against Ireland.
The two ODIs against Ireland are scheduled on 18 and 20 August. Whereas, Pakistan will take on England in the five-match series from 24 August to 4 September.
