Pakistan puts Ajmal on stand-by for World Cup
ADELAIDE: Pakistan may call ace spinner Saeed Ajmal as a replacement for injured Mohammad Irfan for World Cup citing sources, ARY News reports on Wednesday.
Seven foot pacer Irfan was ruled out of World Cup due to an injury in his hip region.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shahryar Khan has stated that the off-spinner might be called to Australia if the green shirts progress to the semi final stage of the mega event.
It will be Ajmal’s first appearance in international cricket since he was banned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for bowling over a suspected action. He was allowed to bowl by the governing body of the sport after re-modeling his bowling style.
However, Ajmal is not the only consideration for Irfan’s slot in the Pakistani squad. It is being said that left arm pacer Junaid Khan may also be called to the side for the last four stages.
The off-spinner, with a knack of bowling Doosras (leg spinning deliveries by an off-spin bowler), is also leading the ODI rankings despite being out of action for several months.
He had also opted to not perform in the World Cup due to lack of practice with his new action.
