PCB appoints Azhar as ODI captain
LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named Azhar Ali as the new one day captain whereas Misbah-ul-Haq and Shahid Afridi have been retained as the test and ODI captain respectively, ARYSports.tv reports.
Azhar Ali, speaking to media on Monday, said that he was thankful to the PCB Chairman Shahryar Khan for considering him for the position.
He said that he has been representing Pakistan for the last five years.
“There are all good players in the team and I hope they will cooperate with me”, Ali said.
It should be noted that Ali’s name was suggested by the head coach of Pakistan Waqar Younis in his report on the World Cup campaign to PCB.
Sources had reported that the name of Wahab Riaz, Sarfraz Ahmed, Ahmed Shehzad and Mohammad Hafeez were also being considered for the position.
Ali has also been named the vice captain of the test side as well.
Misbah-ul-Haq and Shahid Afridi have been retained as the captain of the test and twenty20 side as well.
Haroon Rasheed has beem named as the chief selector of PCB in place of Moin Khan.
Shahryar Khan, in the media talk, said that Rasheed is a competent person and he knows him well.
Khan was found in a casino in New Zealand during Pakistan’s World Cup campaign whereas he was also criticized by the nation and cricketing experts for the squad selection for the mega event.
