PCB desperate to hunt a new ‘Chief Selector’
Karachi: After Mohsin Khan’s refusal, it has become a tedious task for PCB to select a new Chief Selector. Chairman Shahryar Khan seems desirous to bring in ‘New Faces’ from the players of 90’s era but is unable finding a suitable one, in such a case he might be prompted to consider the already tested ones like Iqbal Qasim, Wasim Bari or some other former player whose luck might favor.
According to details after the disappointing performance at Asia cup and WT20 Haroon Rashid the chief selector was sacked. The board is now desperately searching an appropriate candidate for this position. Few days back chairman Shaharyar Khan had offered this position to former opener Mohsin Khan which he refused and opted to join as a head coach from where he had left.
Shahryar Khan is now interested to bring in someone from the former players of 90’s who hasn’t worked at this position in the past. The board has tried a lot but is unable to find a suitable candidate. If the situation prolongs we might see someone at this position from the already tested ones like Iqbal Qasim, Wasim Bari etc. Since the Pentangular Cup begins this month after which the selection of players will be done for the scheduled camp at Abbottabad therefore its essential to appoint the selection committee as early as possible.
On the other end Wasim Akram who criticized the inclusion of non cricketers in the board has agreed to work with a non cricketer in the Coach Hunt Committee. Wasim and Ramiz Raja along with PSL’s official Faisal Mirza will find a new coach for the national team. Faisal earlier had been instrumental in making agreements with foreign players and coaches for the T20 leagues. Meanwhile former test cricketer Vivian Richards will be out of this run for the chief coach of Pakistan team as the board’s senior officials don’t seem to be in his favor and his previous record in West Indies is not so impressive, of course his services could be hired as a ‘Mentor’ for a short while. Richards had previously guided the ‘Quetta Gladiators’ team during the PSL.
Wasim Akram is interested to bring in Dan Jones as Pakistan’s team coach but he might face resistance from Ramiz Raja. Another reason could be the former Australian player’s past. During a commentary he called the S. African player Hashim Amla a’ terrorist’ and landed into trouble. Though he performed as a coach of the Islamabad team in the PSL but acquiring a post in Pakistan would be too difficult for him. Wasim and Ramiz have informed the board that they would contact other coaches during the IPL in India after which it would be possible to hire someone. PCB has given one month’s period to this committee to submit their report.
