Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has offered the banned leg-spinner, Danish Kaneria, help to find him a respectable job in a cricket playing department.
England and Wales Cricket Board (EB) banned the Pakistani leggie for being allegedly involved in match fixing, since then he has been asking for help from the board in this regard.
Earlier, National Assembly Standing Committee on Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) asked the cricket board to facilitate him as cricket is bread and butter for the leg-spinner.
Danish Kaneria played 61 tests and 18 ODIs for Pakistan before getting banned by the ECB around four years back from all cricketing activities.
A PCB source told Press Trust of India (PCB), “Yes the MNA and others did raise an issue with the fact that Kaneria who had served Pakistan cricket for so long was without any job because of the ban imposed on him and was finding it difficult to make ends meet.”
The Pakistan Cricket Board has assured the MNA and has agreed to help him find a respectable job related to his expertise.
“But the MNA insisted that the PCB should give him a cricket related job and this is not possible since the life ban on him by the ECB means he can’t have anything to do with cricket after being found guilty of corruption,” the source added.
Danish Kaneria earlier stated that he has spent his whole life around cricket and he does not know any other mean to earn his livings, thus PCB should help him out. He also said that allowing him to play domestic cricket would be a big help for him.
However, due to ECB’s ban he cannot participate in any local games. “The MNA insisted that the PCB should allow some relaxation to Kaneria and at least allow him to resume playing domestic and league cricket. But we explained to him the ban was imposed on him by the ECB not us and as members of the ICC we are bound to also enforce the decision of the ECB. We also explained to him that Kaneria had tried the options of appeal available him,” the source added.
Recently, the ECB filed cases against Kaneria in London and Karachi courts for the recovery of expanses that they have incurred on the disciplinary and appeal hearings of his case.
It seems like the ice is melting a bit, as some reports suggest that the ECB is ready to give him some relaxation if he pays their expanses.
“The issue now is that the ECB is insisting that Kaneria first pay the costs of the hearings which is quite hefty in Pakistan currency and the leg-spinner says he is struggling financially,” another source told PTI.
