PHF finalizes plan for the hockey league
Pakistan Hockey Federation has finalized the plan for their hockey league that is likely to take place later this year.
The hockey league is expected to play a vital role in reviving the sport in the country. To attract big names of hockey, the PHF has decided to spend hundreds and thousands of dollars.
As per the plan, players are being divided into five categories, Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver and Emerging players.
It has not been decided as yet, how many teams would participate in the league but it is quite likely that five teams would take part just like the PSL. Officials are a bit unsure about the number of international players that will feature the league due to security concerns.
Franchises are likely to pick players through a draft similar to the Pakistan Super League.
Players featuring in Diamond category likely to be paid $20,000, the Platinum category players will get $15,000, Gold category players will receive $12,000, whereas Silver and Emerging category players will get $8,000 and $5,000 respectively.
Every team will be allowed to have five foreign players in their side.
PHF is determined to host the league in Pakistan and are not considering any substitute for the venue.
Last month while discussing the event’s plan, former Pakistan hockey team captain and PHF secretary Shahbaz senior said “We are hopeful this event will add a new life to Pakistan hockey and players from Holland, Germany and other European countries will participate in this league and make it a success.”
