Ramiz Raja’s take on Pakistan-England series
Karachi: The former captain Ramiz Raja declares James Anderson a real threat for Pakistani team during the England tour. He says Pakistan must begin the series with regular openers but in case of a setback they could look towards Azhar Ali.
The former captain Ramiz Raja while discussing the England tour said Azhar Ali will have an important role to play but simultaneously the team management must speak to Amir to give him confidence. Pakistan team will be leaving on Saturday night for England to play its 4 Tests, 5 One-Days and one T20. He further said, the biggest challenge for Pakistan team during the test series against England will be James Anderson’s bowling, who recently claimed 21 wickets in 3 matches during the home test series against Sri Lanka.
He said “After watching James Anderson’s impressive bowling against Sri Lanka, it seems Pakistan batsmen will also remain under pressure. Our batsmen will have to develop an effective strategy to play against James Anderson.”
Ramiz Raja added that “On technical grounds Pakistan’s batting is very limited therefore they will have to do something very intelligently with their strategy. In today’s cricket it’s difficult to stop the run rate, batsmen keep taking singles and hit boundaries whenever they get a chance. Pakistani batsmen must break the shell and play aggressive cricket.”
While giving his comments on utilizing Azhar Ali as opener, he said “Initially the series should start with regular openers and in case of any failure Azhar can be utilized. He further said runs are very essential in winning a Test match and if our batting clicks it will be a big bonus.
Ramiz also realised the importance of Yasir Shah in this series because he feels his role will be very important.
While speaking about Muhammad Amir who was accused in spot-fixing, Ramiz Raja said if the officials want him to play, then the management will have to speak to him to make him realize his responsibilities under the prevailing situation so that the team doesn’t face any unnecessary pressure.
