KARACHI: Former Pakistan opener, Ramiz Raja has commented on the selection of 17-men squad for the test series against England that the selectors could have done a better job.
“The selection could have been better as Babar Azam is now an established player and should be in the national squad,” said Ramiz
Babar Azam, who is currently one of the best talents available in batting for Pakistan has been named the skipper of Pakistan A, who should have been part of Pakistan’s national side in all three formats of the game.
Selection of Iftikhar Ahmed on the basis that he can bowl some off-spinners as well, has been criticized by the cricket pundits of the country.
In the fast bowling category, dropping Junaid Khan for Sohail Khan has been questioned by the fans and experts, moreover, leaving out Fawad Alam, the most successful batsman in the domestic circuit for the past years and one of the fittest cricketer available at the moment is also heavily condemned.
Ramiz believes that the selectors are bagging on statistics more than players’ actual performances and it can be hazardous for Pakistan cricket.
“In my view, selectors should look at the overall performances and not just stats, because that would urge players to play selfishly,” concluded Ramiz.
