Rashid Latif wants change in ODI captaincy
Rashid Latif took Facebook to comment on Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision of handing over the captaincy band to Sarfraz Ahmed in the shortest format of the game.
The former captain of Pakistan posted a video on Facebook in which he coined the decision as just a measure of damage control. He thinks that the decision can backfire for Sarfraz as there is only one confirmed T20 in the year against England, however, there can be two or three T20 internationals against West Indies in the UAE as well.
Latif said in the video that Pakistan has only one T20 match in the year and it can affect Sarfraz Ahmed negatively as a skipper.
However, the former wicketkeeper suggested a change in One Day International captaincy. He believes that Pakistan needs an energetic ODI skipper like Sarfraz Ahmed.
He said, “Azhar Ali is a good test batsman, he is probably not the right choice to lead Pakistan in the ODIs, there were reservations when he was named as the ODI captain last year as well”
He further said, “He (Azhar Ali) can take up the test captaincy after Misbah Ul Haq.”
According to Rashid Latif, this is the right time to replace Azhar Ali with Sarfraz Ahmed in the captain role. He wished Azhar Ali good luck for future and hoped that he will do well in the future for Pakistan. However, he suggested the board and the fans to think over the issue.
