Rohit Sharma shines as India kicks off Asia Cup on a high note

India comprehensively defeated the hosts, Bangladesh by 45 runs. Rohit Sharma was once again in the runs, he scored 83 runs off 55 deliveries that took India to a sub-par total of 166 runs at the loss of 6 wickets.

Bangladesh had an impressive start with the ball, removing Shikhar Dhawan early in the piece. The Bengali bowlers kept runs dried up that forced Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina to play loose shots. India was 42/3 when Yuvraj Singh came out to bat.

He and Rohit Sharma contributed 55 crucial runs in the total before Yuvraj Singh perished. India’s rookie allrounder, Hardik Pandya, joined in Rohit Sharma and they had a wonderful partnership of 61 runs at 13.55 runs per over. Bangladesh fielding let them down; they dropped two important catches of Rohit Sharma, who punished them scoring 83 runs.


Bangladesh needed 8.30 runs per over to win the game. Ashish Nehra was looking impressive from the word go. He was moving the ball in the air and finally got the debutant, Mohammad Mithun clean bowled off a delivery that was dipping in. The IPL find, Jasprit Bumrah didn’t take long to provide India the second breakthrough, where he got the better of Soumya Sarkar with some extra bounce.

It was the beginning of the end. India kept taking wickets on regular interval and didn’t give anything loose to Bengal batsmen to score freely. The pick of the batsman for Bangladesh was Sabbir Rahman, who scored impressive 44 runs off 32 deliveries. Other than him, none of the Bangladeshi batsmen could chip in with any substantial.

Bangladesh ended up scoring 121 runs with 7 wickets down in their quota of 20 overs. Mashrafe Murtaza, the Bengal skipper, wouldn’t have wanted such a disappointed start to the tournament.

Mashrafe Murtaza thanked fans for showing the similar sort of passion and support for the past 15 years, he believed they were in the match till the 14 overs of the first innings, but, Sharma took the game away from them.

On the other hand, Dhoni expressed that it would have been better to win the toss. The captain cool also praised their new allrounder, Hardik Pandya that he is a fearless batsman, a good fielder and a handy third seamer, that is why they want to give him more matches. Rohit Sharma is awarded the man of the match for his pleasant innings of 83 runs.
