Serena progresses while Bouchard shocked at Miami
MIAMI: Serena Williams started her bid for an eighth Miami Open title with after defeating Monica Niculescu 6-3 6-1 but sixth seed Eugenie Bouchard was suffered an upset by German qualifier Tatjana Maria.
Williams was always in control despite Niculescu utiliing her effective slice forced a series of entertaining rallies.

On the other hand, Bouchard was outplayed by Maria and lost the match 6-0 7-6(4).
Bouchard gave a strong fightback in the second taking a 5-3 lead despite being hammered in the first set but her opponent Maria went on to win the set and the match.
Venus Williams triumphed over Samantha Stosur 6-3 7-6(3).
Fourth seed Caroline Wozniacki came back a set down to beat Estonian Kaia Kanepi 4-6 6-1 6-3 and progress into the fourth round.
Angelique Kerber defeated Heather Watson 7-5 3-6 6-4 whereas Sara Errani beat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-1 7-6(5).
