Sharjeel scores third fastest 150 to put Pakistan in command
DUBLIN: Pakistan set up a monstrous target of 338 runs for Ireland in the first of the two One Day International games scheduled between the two teams. Pakistan ended their inning at a score of 337/6 in 47 overs.
In a 47 over game, Ireland won the toss and elected to bowl first keeping the green pitch and playing conditions in view. However, the decision did not prove to be a good one for the hosts.
Pakistan lost an early wicket of Azhar Ali, who edged one to the keeper after scoring just 1 run off 12 deliveries, it was sheer carnage from Sharjeel Khan afterwards.
The left-handed opener from Hyderabad smashed 152 runs on just 86 deliveries with the help of nine 6’s and sixteen 4’s to put Pakistan at a dominating position.
Sharjeel Khan achieved many feats in the game. He scored the third fastest 150+ score in the history of ODIs. He also became the third Pakistani to get a 150+ score after Saeed Anwar and Imran Nazir. His century in 61 deliveries was the fourth fastest for Pakistan, the top three fastest tons belong to Shahid Afridi.
Apart from him, it was a disappointing show from Azhar Ali, Mohammad Hafeez, Babar Azam 29 (29) and Sarfraz Ahmed, who scored 1 (12), 37 (59) and 2 (7) respectively.
It was an impressive debut for Mohammad Nawaz, who stabilized the inning with the senior partner Shoaib Malik after a sudden collapse from 202/2 to 227/5.
Nawaz had an impressive partnership of 105 runs with Shoaib Malik before getting out on an individual score of 53 runs off 50 balls.
The senior pro remained not out on 57 runs off 37 deliveries, his inning comprised of two 6’s and six 4’s.
While Barry McCarthy claimed 4 wickets leaking 62 runs in the ten overs he bowled.
Pakistan is playing with two debutantes, the allrounder Mohammad Nawaz and right-arm pacer, Hasan Ali.
