KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering to take the former fast bowler, Shoaib Akhtar onboard as the fast bowling consultant to help the young pacers in National Cricket Academy (NCA), Express Tribune reported.
PCB is looking to hire some big names of Pakistan cricket to inspire young cricketers, as a result, former star batsman, Mohammad Yousuf was roped in by the board as a batting consultant on the advice of Mudassar Nazar.
Aaqib Javed was earlier considered as the option, but, he is unavailable for the job, so Shoaib Akhtar is likely to perform this role of consultation.
The board is planning to get specialized consultants for all fields of the game such as for spinners as well as for wicketkeepers. For the role of spin-bowling consultancy, the board was eyeing to hire Saqlain Mushtaq, however, he is busy with his England’s assignment. Mushtaq Ahmed is already working as a coach in NCA, so it does not seem a dire need to hire another legend just for consultancy.
Pakistan’s former skipper, Rashid Latif is a possible candidate to mentor the young wicketkeepers in the National Cricket Academy, however, there is nothing finalized.
NCA Senior General Manager Ali Zia told Express Tribune that hiring such inspiring figures will surely be fruitful for the young cricketers.
“The former cricketers being appointed as consultants will be assigned special tasks,” Zia said. “They will be working with cricketers playing at the U16 level all the way to players of the national team.”
“These cricketers have loads of experience and it would be highly beneficial for our cricketers especially the youngsters,” he added.
