Street in Karachi named after Sohail Khan
KARACHI: Secured a surprise place in the World Cup squad and then took five wickets against traditional rivals India in World Cup opener, Sohail Khan has been hailed as hero in his residence city of Karachi and a street, adjacent to his house, has also been named after him.
Although Pakistan lost the match to India on Sunday to the disappointment of the nation, but inexperienced Sohail Khan’s performance was widely acclaimed.
“He is our national hero. Although others failed but Sohail made us proud of him against India,” one of his fans Navid Alam said. Sohail’s five wickets also included two back to back victims.
Born in Malakand, Sohail lives in Khawaja Ajmer Nagri area in Karachi and on Friday his fan celebrated his performance in front of his house with traditional dance – Bhangra.
“He performed well against India and he will continue to perform well against other teams as well. We are very proud of him,” another of his fan said.
Banners have also been erected near his house showing Sohail in action during the World Cup and the road, adjacent to his house, has also been named after him as ‘Sohail Khan Road’ as a tribute to him.
