Suspension of spin twins a major blow to ODI side
Waqar Younis, who is the head coach of Pakistan cricket team, has said that Pakistan Super League will be a massive opportunity for youngsters of Pakistan to showcase their talent on the international stage.
While speaking in a show on a local sports channel Waqar said that PSL is a mega event in the history of Pakistan which is why it will leave significant impact on Pakistan cricket.
Pakistan cricket team has seen a downward trend in the shorter formats and especially ODIs and the coach believes that suspension of Hafeez and Ajmal is one of the major reasons on this decline in our performance.
Younis Khan’s sudden retirement from ODIs came as a surprise to many including the coach Waqar Younis himself because he had included the batsman for the whole series and was part of his plans in the ODI series against England.
Waqar Younis is widely criticized for the team’s lack of performance but Waqar said that the nation is slightly impatient in situations such as these and he reiterated that in order to produce good results people need to give him some time rather than criticizing him straight away.
Speaking on Mohammad Amir’s issue Waqar said that the pace bowler needs proper counseling but he has no idea as to whether anyone is hired for this specific job.
Mohammad Irfan who has been left out of the T20 side that faces New Zealand is also a trump card for the side according to Waqar Younis and he believes that in the future events he will a regular feature of the national side.
The T20 series between Pakistan and New Zealand begins on the 15th of January with the first match scheduled to be played at Auckland.
