Team combinations of PSL franchises
The drafting process of the Pakistan Super League has begun in Lahore today. All the dignitaries related to cricket and owners of all teams are present for the draft.
Platinum Category Icon players
Although the first pick of the draft was of Islamabad but a trade with Peshawar Zalmi meant that they picked the first player. Nobody had any issues guessing the first player they would choose as the Zalmi’s picked up the T20 captain of Pakistan Shahid Afridi.
The Karachi Kings were the second one in the order and they picked up Pakistan’s most successful T20 captain in domestic cricket Shoaib Malik. Most probably Shoaib Malik will lead the side of Karachi Kings.
Shane Watson was picked up by the Islamabad United team in their first icon player pick while Quetta Gladiators picked up the flamboyant English player Kevin Pietersen.
The eagerly awaited pick of the platinum category Chris Gayle was picked up by the Qalandars from Lahore. The big hitting Windies opener will rock PSL with his booming sixes.
During the second round Islamabad had two picks because of the trade made earlier. Pakistan’s wicket keeper batsman Sarfraz Ahmed was roped in by the Quetta Gladiators while Islamabad United brought in the explosive all rounder Andre Russell. In their second pick the Karachi Kings picked up the top international all rounder Shakib-ul-Hasan who hails from Bangladesh.
Pakistan’s test captain Misbah-ul-Haq was the third pick of the Islamabad United who will also be their captain whereas the Lahore Qalandars picked up the local boy Umar Akmal who is a talented middle order batsman.
In the third round of the drafting process the Peshawar Zalmi’s had two picks and they utilized it to perfection by picking up pace bowler Wahab Riaz and Windies all rounder Darren Sammy. Meanwhile the Gladiators from Quetta picked up the exciting Ahmed Shahzad for their team. Lahore Qalandars were quick to pick up another Windies all rounder which was Dwayne Bravo.
The Karachi Kings picked up the left arm medium fast bowler Sohail Tanvir as their third pick of the draft. Sohail is also can add to the side with his all round capabilities.
With that the platinum category of draft finished as all teams picked up three players each.
Diamond category Round 1
The first pick of Diamond Category was with Karachi Kings and their pick was the upcoming all rounder Imad Wasim who is also an all rounder. Lahore Qalandars picked up upcoming wicket keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan. The next turn was of Quetta Gladiators who picked up all rounder Anwar Ali who became famous for his explosive innings against Sri Lanka. Due to the trade between team, Islamabad had the option to pick two players from the third round and they picked up Samuel Badree and the tallest fast bowler Mohammad Irfan.
In the second round of the Diamond category Peshawar Zalmi picked up Kamran Akmal who was once part and parcel of the Pakistan national side. The Islamabad United picked up Brad Haddin as their next pick of the Diamond category. The Karachi Kings picked up English player Ravi Bopara as their second pick of the Diamond category. The Lahore Qalandars picked up leg spinner Yasir Shah who has been an excellent performer for Pakistan especially in test matches. The Quetta Gladiators picked up Windies Captain Jason Holder as their next pick in this category.
In the next round Peshawar Zalmi picked up Pakistan’s former T20 captain Mohammad Hafeez along with English pacer Chris Jordan who bowled a fantastic super over in the T20 series versus Pakistan. The Karachi Kings picked up Windies opener Lendl Simmons as their next pick from the diamond category. Sohaib Maqsood was selected by the Lahore Qalandars as their latest pick in the diamond category. The Quetta Gladiators picked up Luke Wright as the last and 6th pick of their bunch from this category.
With that the Diamond category cam to a close and now the gold category would come into contention.
Gold category Round 1
The first pick of the gold category was made by Karachi Kings and they picked up Mohammad Amir as their premier fast bowler.
The Lahore Qalandars picked up the rising fast bowler from Bangladesh Mustafizur Rahman as their first pick in the golden category meanwhile Zulfiqar Babar was picked up by Quetta Gladiators. The Islamabad United team went for opener Sharjeel Khan. In the final pick Tamim Iqbal was picked up by Peshawar Zalmi team.
In the second round of the gold category Lahore Qalandars picked up the Windies all rounder Kevon Cooper as their second pick of the Gold category. One of the best fast bowler of T20s for Pakistan Umar Gul was selected by the Quetta Gladiators. Mohammad Sami, who performed really well in BPL, was picked up Islamabad United. The injury prone fast bowler Junaid Khan was picked up the Peshawar Zalmi but no one can deny the talent he possesses. The Karachi Kings picked up Bilawal Bhatti in their second pick of the gold category.
In the final round of the day Quetta Gladiators were the first one to select a player and they went for the Zimbabwe hard hitting all rounder Elton Chigumbura. The Peshawar Zalmi’s picked up the Englishman James Allenby as their final pick. The Lahore Qalandars were up next and they selected the South African Cameron Delport which was an interesting pick. The Karachi Kings picked English players James Vince as their final player of the day in the gold category. In the final pick of the day Islamabad United picked up Khalid Latif who is a decent middle order batsman in domestic cricket.
