Lionel Messi’s little Afghani fan is in Quetta since the past few days. The boy named Murtaza Ahmedi, came into world’s notice after his pictures wearing a blue and white striped jersey made of a plastic shopping bag and bearing Messi’ name and number on it, went viral on social media.
The little Messi’s fan talked to BBC Urdu in his native language, “I really like Messi, I wish I can meet him.”
According to Murtaza’s cousin, they have brought him Pakistan as they were afraid that Murtaza could get kidnapped in Afghanistan due to gaining so much popularity. He further told that the Afghan Football Federation promised the young fan to help him meet his real life hero, Lionel Messi, but, they couldn’t make it. He also appealed to both Afghan and Pakistan government to try help Murtaza meet Messi.
Murtaza received a signed Argentina jersey from his ideal earlier this year. Messi saw his fan on the internet and expressed his wish to meet Murtaza and do something for him.
Afghanistan is known in the world due to Taliban and terrorism and the game of soccer is hardly played in the Taliban ruled stadiums. In these circumstances, a boy wearing a makeshift Argentina jersey made of a plastic shopping bag and bearing Messi’s name on it was overwhelming for the football fans around the world.
