Wahab Riaz, Keeps Pakistan in the World Cup.
As Misbah ul Haq said it was a ‘make or break match’ against Zimbabwe. At last Pakistan finallyregistered their 1st win of the 2015 Cricket World Cup, following two defeats at the hands of Indiaand the West Indies.
Winning the toss and batting first, Pakistan’s opening pair failed once again. Jamshed pulled straightto a field and Shehzad edged to the keeper- 4/2. Misbah the rock of the line up contributed a solid73 off 121 balls. Wahab Riaz ended nicely with his highest one day international score of 54 not outoff 46 balls. The total of 235, seemed a touch below par.
Zimbabwe in reply fell just 20 runs short of the target. With excellent bowling from Mohammad Irfan(4/30) and Man of the Match Wahab Riaz (4/45). Other positives included 5 catches behind wicketfor Umar Akmal.
Jamshed’s catching is still a concern as he dropped another easy one.The highlights of the match for Pakistan were Misbah ul Haq, Mohammad Irfan and Wahab Riaz’s allround performance. They showed guts and fighting spirit in the must one encounter againstZimbabwe.
The opening pair continues to be a huge problem for Pakistan. Shahid Afridi has had a very subduedstart to the tournament. However good, bad or ugly, a win is a win and 2 points are in the bag. The result should boost theconfidence of the Pakistani’s players and should act as a turning point. Performances still need toimprove if we stand any chance against the stronger established teams.
Next match Wednesday March 4th versus UAE, at Napier, New Zealand.
