Wasim is also in India for the IPL to discuss with candidates, says Shahryar Khan
Pakistan’s new head coach is expected to be appointed by the first week of May. There are speculations that the position, which is left vacant after Waqar Younis’ resignation, can be filled by a coach fulfilling his duties in the ongoing edition of the IPL.
Waqar Younis stepped down after Pakistan’s miserable performance in the Asia Cup and the World T20. A panel comprising Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja are given the responsibility by the board to search and appoint a new head coach for Pakistan national team.
The top two names that are coming up for the position are both Australians, Tom Moody and Dean Jones. Moody is currently associated with the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League. Whereas, Dean Jones was the coach of Islamabad United in the PSL, who went on to lift the first PSL trophy.
Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board, Shahryar Khan told, “The new coach will be appointed by first week of May and Wasim is also in India for the IPL to discuss with candidates,”
Shahryar Khan also indicated that the board will appoint the new selection committee by the next week. The frontrunners for the position of chief selector are Moin Khan and Iqbal Qasim. Mohsin Khan was approached by the board for the post earlier, but, he refused the offer as he is interested in becoming the head coach of the team.
Pakistan has a tough tour of England coming up in the summer. Pakistan will play four test matches, five ODIs and T20 international there.
