We are very clear on what we have to do, says Arthur
Mickey Arthur has stated that he and the support staff have figured out the problem at the top order and they know what they have to do in the upcoming test match at Edgbaston.
“We have had discussions, we are very clear on what we have to do in this test match, we have given those positions some serious thoughts,” said Arthur during a press conference in Edgbaston.
As per the head coach, players are not short of confidence after the daunting defeat by 330 runs at Old Trafford and they are ready to play again. Moreover, Players are concerned about their consistency, they are disappointed by the way they play at Old Trafford after a wonderful show at Lord’s.
“Players are confident, we dissected Manchester (test), we had some good hard conversations around our performance,” he said, “One of the things that boys want is consistency,” he added.
Edgbaston’s wicket assists pace bowlers, however the coach is confident that Yasir Shah will bowl with his true colours.
“We have looked Cook and Root again and analyzed their plans against him (Yasir Shah), what we did well against them and what we probably didn’t do well,” he went on to say, “We have spent our time wisely after Manchester.”
On a question regarding the struggling Younis Khan and the way he is jumping around the crease, Arthur replied that the 38-year old is extremely professional, he analyzes his batting footages and he knows what he is doing. He seems confident that Pakistan’s veteran middle order batsman will bounce back.
Arthur expressed his disappointment on the team’s performance in Old Trafford and he believes that they have to put in fight.
“We have to raise up (the quality of cricket) considerably from Old Trafford,” he further said, “I was very disappointed with that performance.”
“At Lord’s we were upbeat, we played with a great spirit, we had that complete edge. I thought were warrior at Lord’s, but, we were completely opposite at Old Trafford.”
Arthur also told that Mohammad Hafeez is working on his action with Carl Crowe, but, bowling is his second priority and they want him to focus on his batting first. However, if the things go well, he will be tested before the ODI series.
