We will perform well in World Cup 2015: Misbah-ul-Haq
Pakistan cricket team skipper Misbah-ul-Haq on Tuesday said that the team is pepped up to perform well in World Cup 2015 and his retirement plan after the tournament gives him more motivation to lead the team to podium.
“I wanted to retire on a high note and I believe this would be the right time for me to call it a day,” Misbah-ul-Haq told reporters during the team’s training session in Lahore.
“The plan of retiring soon after World Cup gives me motivation to lead the team effectively in the World Cup and end my limited overs’ career on a high note,” he said.
He further said that the board didn’t ask him to retire and it was his own decision. “Cricket is above everything for me and it was a difficult decision to make. However, everything in this world has to meet its end so I had always wanted to quit on a high note. This is my own decision and nobody forced me to do that.”
Misbah added that Pakistan has bright chances of performing well in Australia and New Zealand. “We will not let down the nation and we would perform well during the tournament.”
Misbah said that he had given his input to the board on team’s selection and they picked players, who they believe would perform well Down Under.
When asked whether he agree with the team selection and which players he didn’t wanted to be a part of the World Cup, Misbah said, “I don’t think so that I name players, who I think should not be a part of the squad. I gave my input and the board (and selectors) decided what they thought right. Let us hope everything goes fine,” he said.
