Younis Khan refuses to attend World T20 trophy launch
Karachi: Younis Khan refused to attend T20 trophy launch ceremony on a sudden invitation given at the nick of time. The star batsman told the Board officials ” when you have already invited Azhar Ali, what would be the use of inviting me.”
According to details PCB ignored senior batsman Younis Khan on the unveiling ceremony of World T20 trophy at Peshawar though the team had won the title under his leadership in 2009 but surprisingly in his place One-Day captain Azhar Ali was invited. The Board officials became aware of the situation upon media’s criticism on this issue. Sources said Younis was invited through a phone call but he refused, he said ” When Azhar Ali is already invited what would be the use of inviting me.”
Meanwhile the media contacted the senior batsman who expressed his displeasure and said “I am surprised on the Boards disappointing behavior, similar situation arose in West Indies, they reigned the cricket world for many years but were unable to recognize their great players like Vivian Richards and Brian Lara thereby facing a decline. Younis Khan said I have had a neat and clean career and I do not want to get into any controversies which may lead to conditions forcing me to retire before the England tour therefore I would play without passing any comments.
He said It hardly makes any difference if I am invited or not to this event, wherever I go the youngsters and elders meet me cordially and if a few people don’t respect me it doesn’t matter. He said during 2009 the country was facing many problems but even then we succeeded in providing joy and happiness to the people by winning the title. Now even if the players stop playing for themselves and are determined to play for their country to bring a name and honor, nothing can stop them from being victorious and for this it is also imperative to bring a positive change in the dressing room environment as well.
